In the latest development, Big Bash League (BBL) legend Andrew Tye has announced his retirement from the league. He made the decision public ahead of the Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers game in the ongoing BBL 2025-26.

Right-arm pacer Andrew Tye has been a stalwart in the league, having made his debut in 2013. He started his career with Sydney Thunder but played for Perth Scorchers for the majority of his career and will now retire with the team with Melbourne Renegades, which he was part of in the last few seasons.

Andrew Tye retirement from the Big Bash League comes as a shock as not many expected him to call time on his career this soon. In what will be the emotional moment, he will end his career against the team for which he gave his sweat and blood.

Andrew Tye became a part of history when in the 2021-22 season. He became the first Perth Scorchers pacer to pick up 100 wickets in the league. He ended his career as the second leading wicket-taker in the league with 159 wickets to his name.

Tye established as one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. His best season in the BBL came in 2022/23 when he picked up 26 wickets. He bettered his own record of 25 wickets in 2021/22. His absence will be felt big time as the kind of impact that he made in the league will be hard to find.

Andrew Tye Signs Two-Year Deal with Yorkshire

As Andrew Tye BBL retirement has been announced, the fast bowler has also signed a two-year deal with Yorkshire for the Vitality Blast. He will be playing in the upcoming season.

"Everyone saw a post regarding my signing with the Yorkshire Team for the Vitality T20 Blast, but what that post did not mention was that I have signed as a local player, which means this will be my last season in the BBL," stated Andrew Tye in his retirement statement.

Tye has played six seasons in the Vitality Blast and has picked up 86 wickets in the six seasons. Overall in T20 cricket, he has been sensational, featuring in some of the biggest cricket leagues in the world like Major League Cricket, Vitality Blast, PSL, Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League.

He has played 249 matches in the format and has taken 343 wickets with the best of 5/17 to go with three fifers. Also, he has picked three BBL hat-tricks and one in IPL during his debut season in 2017.

For Australia, Tye has bagged 47 wickets for Australia in T20Is. He has scalped 12 wickets in his ODI career. Now having retired from BBL, he would be keen to make an impact in Vitality Blast in the final stages of his cricket career.
