India and New Zealand are facing each other in the T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts are defending a massive total after a blistering batting display earlier in the evening.

During the IND vs NZ T20 World Cup match, the brief altercation between Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings. After delivering a wide yorker outside off, Mitchell defended the ball back down the pitch. Arshdeep quickly picked it up and threw it back at the stumps, but the ball struck Mitchell on the thigh.

The New Zealand batter appeared unhappy with the throw and walked toward the bowler aggressively while making animated gestures. India skipper Suryakumar Yadav stepped in immediately to calm things down, putting an arm around Mitchell while the on-field umpire also spoke with Arshdeep to ensure the situation did not escalate.

However, the tension eased quickly on the very next delivery. Mitchell, one of the best batsmen in the world, guided another wide yorker through point for a single, and Arshdeep exchanged a handshake with him while Mitchell was completing the run. India's left-arm quick realised his mistake and apologised to Mitchell immediately.

Will Arshdeep Singh Be Fined For His Antics?

It is not yet clear whether Arshdeep Singh, one of the best T20 bowlers, will be fined for his antics or not. Since he accepted his mistake and apologized to the batter, it is unlikely that he will cop a fine.

After the IND vs NZ final 2026 match, Arshdeep jokingly revealed that his throw reverse swung way too much to miss the stumps and hit Daryl Mitchell, bringing out a reaction from the batter. It all seemed fine in the end but any decision on the fine will be taken by the ICC later.

Arshdeep played eight matches in this edition of ICC T20 World Cup and picked up nine wickets. The young pacer bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament, especially during the powerplays, providing the team perfect start with initial breakthroughs.
