Sophie Molineux Back Into the Team
On Friday (5th September), Cricket Australia announced their squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The Australia squad women's World Cup 2025 will be captained by the experienced wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy.
The main talking point of the squad was the addition of spinner Sophie Molineux. The left-arm spinner, who underwent knee surgery in January, will he making a return to the side after a long gap. She missed all the cricketing action, but Cricket Australia trusted her and named her in the side, despite the lack of game time.
Sophie Molineux, however, won't be part of the series against India which Australia will play ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. As a cover for her in the series, Australia has added uncapped spinner Charli Knott to the team.

Players to Feature in Cricket World Cup for First Time
Molineux will be amongst the five players in the Australia squad, who will be playing the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for the first time in their careers. The other players are. Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth, all of whom are expected to be part of the playing 11 at some point of the tournament.
The addition of Sophie Molineux makes the Australian team strong in the spin department. It also features Georgia Wareham, Alana King and off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner. Talking about the return of injury-based players, Australia team physio Kate Beerworth said that all three in Sophie Molineux, Alyssa Healy and Georgia Wareham are well on track and are likely to play a big role in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.
"Sophie Molineux is progressing well in her return from a knee injury, and we anticipate she'll be available for the World Cup. Alyssa Healy made a strong return in the recent 'A' series, and we're pleased with where she's at, with Georgia Wareham also back to full training following her adductor injury during the Hundred," Beerworth stated.

Australia are the defending champions of the tournament and would be keen to defend their title. They will begin their campaign in the tournament against New Zealand on October 1 in Indore.
