With BBL 2025 still months away, all clubs are now in full list-building mode. Some teams have already locked in their key players, while others have big gaps to fill. Here’s a full list of each team’s current squad status.

The KFC Big Bash League (BBL) has recently concluded, with the Hobart Hurricanes winning their first-ever title in BBL 2024. However, the teams have started preparing for next season already. During the new 10-day Player Movement Window, some players changed clubs, and now all eight teams are building their squads for BBL 2025.
With BBL 2025 still months away, all clubs are now in full list-building mode. Some teams have already locked in their key players, while others have big gaps to fill. The overseas draft and more local signings will shape the final squads, but early moves show a big focus on youth and future planning across the league.

BBL 2025 Squads

Fans can expect more announcements soon as teams complete their BBL 2025 squad ahead of another exciting Big Bash season. Here’s a bbl 2025 squad players list:

Adelaide Strikers

Head Coach: Tim Paine

Key Players Signed: Matt Short (till BBL|17), Alex Carey (till BBL|17), Jamie Overton (overseas), Jason Sangha (new signing from Thunder)
Recent Departures: Jake Weatherald (to Hurricanes), Brendan Doggett (to Renegades)
Still Uncontracted: Fabian Allen, James Bazley, Liam Haskett, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Harry Manenti, Ollie Pope, Liam Scott, D'Arcy Short
The Strikers have made a strong move by signing Jason Sangha from the Sydney Thunder. Sangha had a good domestic season and will now join the Strikers for the next two years. England all-rounder Jamie Overton will return as their overseas player, and pace bowlers Jordan Buckingham and Henry Thornton have also been signed. However, they may need to sign more batters, with big names like Head, Lynn, and D’Arcy Short still out of contract.

Brisbane Heat

Head Coach: Johan Botha
Key Players Signed: Matthew Renshaw (till BBL|17), Xavier Bartlett (till BBL|18), Max Bryant (till BBL|18), Spencer Johnson (till BBL|17)
New Signings: Lachlan Hearne, Hugh Weibgen (both from Thunder)
Recent Departure: Mitch Swepson (to Stars)
Still Uncontracted: Tom Alsop, Tom Banton, Daniel Drew, Marnus Labuschagne, Will Prestwidge, Tom Straker, Jack Wildermuth, Paul Walter, Tom Whitney, Jack Wood
The Heat are focused on building a strong future, securing young talents like Hugh Weibgen and Lachlan Hearne. Their key players, including Renshaw, Bartlett, and Johnson, are all locked in. However, Marnus Labuschagne’s future is uncertain as he is yet to sign a new contract. Losing leg-spinner Mitch Swepson to the Melbourne Stars has also been a big blow to Heat.

Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart has retained most of their title-winning core, including their captain Ellis and pacer Meredith. The big task ahead is re-signing Tim David, who is a top name in the free-agent pool. They also need to sign at least one spinner, with Dooley and Hatzoglou yet to re-sign. Their new signings, Webster and Weatherald, will add strength to their batting lineup.

Melbourne Renegades

Head Coach: Cameron White

Key Players Signed: Will Sutherland, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff

The Renegades are building a strong bowling unit with the addition of Jason Behrendorff and Brendan Doggett. They also secured promising youngster Harry Dixon on a two-year deal. However, the futures of experienced players like Kane Richardson and Jon Wells remain uncertain. Their Spin department is strong with Zampa and Lyon in the squad, though Lyon is yet to debut in the League for them due to his injury.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars have made some important bowling additions in Hatcher and Swepson to strengthen their squad. They have retained their experienced core with Maxwell, Stoinis, and Tom Curran. Veteran pacer Peter Siddle will also return to the club. However, with multiple wicketkeeper-batters off contract, including Harper and Clarke, finding a replacement will be a top priority.

Perth Scorchers quickly locked in their skipper Mitch Marsh for another three years. Marsh is expected to play a bigger role now that he’s not in the Test team. The Sixers haven’t announced many off-season moves yet, but have a stable core. Big names like Steve Smith and James Vince are still unsigned, and they are expected to be key targets. With Daniel Christian retiring, the team will look for a middle-order allrounder along with more depth in the spin department.

Sydney Thunder

Head Coach: Trevor Bayliss
Key Players Signed: David Warner, Tanveer Sangha, Ollie Davies, Alex Hales (draft?), Gurinder Sandhu
Recent Departures: Jason Sangha (to Strikers), Lachlan Hearne and Hugh Weibgen (to Heat), Liam Hatcher (to Stars)
Uncontracted: Tom Andrews, Dan Christian, Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, George Garton, Toby Gray, Ryan Hadley, Muhammad Hasnain, Nic Maddinson, Blake Nikitaras, Sherfane Rutherford, Will Salzmann
The Thunder have seen several young players leave, including Jason Sangha and Hatcher. They’ll need to rebuild around stars like Warner and Sangha. Re-signing experienced players like Chris Green and Daniel Sams will be important. It will be interesting to see whether Alex Hales will return through the overseas draft or sign early.
