England ODI Squad for West Indies 2025: Who's in and Who's out?

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced its white-ball squad for the ODI series against the West Indies starting on May 29. The biggest surprise is the absence of Liam Livingstone from the team, although he is fully fit and has also captained the same team last year. Harry Brook has been given the captaincy of both formats, while Jos Buttler's availability remains in question despite his name being in the squad. The reason is the IPL final, which can directly clash with England's ODI series. Butler's team Gujarat Titans, is at the forefront of the playoff race, so the clash of club vs country is considered certain.

Livingstone is out of the squad

Liam Livingstone, who captained in place of Jos Buttler during the West Indies tour last year, is not a part of the team this time. Although he is not injured, the selectors have not given him a place in the squad. Actually, Buttler is in a dilemma, IPL or England? The IPL final and England's ODI series are going to be held at the same time. In such a situation, Butler will have to decide whether he will play for Gujarat Titans or England. The ECB has made it clear that they will have to think again on the rescheduling of IPL because NOC (No Objection Certificate) was issued according to the old dates.

ENG vs WI ODI Schedule: Archer and Root returned to the ODI team

Senior players like Joe Root and Jofra Archer, who are returning from injuries, have been included in the ODI squad. This is an indication that England is thinking of betting on both experience and youthful enthusiasm for the upcoming ICC tournaments. Liam Dawson, who is returning to the team after almost three years, has a place only in the T20 squad. West Indies' tour of England is going to start on 29 May with a three-match ODI series, after which the same number of T20 matches will be played from 6 June. The series clashes with the new schedule of IPL 2025, as the tournament will resume on May 17 and end on June 3.

The ECB had earlier fixed the series against West Indies as per the schedule. Both Gujarat and Mumbai are strong contenders to reach the playoffs.
