The Indian Cricket Team is amongst the richest sporting teams in the world. The reason behind that has been the brand value of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has built a huge amount of wealth over the past few years. The BCCI is easily the richest cricket board in the world.

Not Just BCCI, Indian Cricketers to Suffer Massive Losses After Dream11 Ban

Being associated with the BCCI, Indian cricketers are often in demand. A lot of brands and social media platforms reach out to them for promotions and other things. This, in turn, skyrockets the net worth of the players and makes them hard to deal with.
The Indian Cricket Team players are among the richest athletes in world cricket. Due to their net worth, they often attract a lot of brands and serve as a brand ambassador for them. The amount of revenue that they get from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also immense. However, these cricketers are all set to suffer huge losses after a recent incident.
How will Indian Cricketers Suffer Losses After Dream11 Restrictions?
Team India, as well as the players, have been associated with Dream11 since 2023. However, they faced a massive blow just ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 as Dream11 pulled out of their sponsorship. This is because of a bill related to the banning of online money gaming apps to deal with “serious social and public health issues like addiction" was passed in the Indian Parliament recently.
The Indian national cricket team is now expected to play the Asia Cup 2025 without a lead sponsor. While this is the frontend, it is learned, as per the reports in Cricbuzz, that not only the BCCI, but the players are all set to face a massive loss with Dream11's step of pulling out their sponsorship.
Almost every Indian player was associated with the gaming companies, which have been among the biggest spenders on advertising and endorsements. The reports claimed that every cricketer from Virat Kohli to Rahul Chahar was associated with them.
Explained: Indian Cricketers Loss After Dream11 Ban
With the Gaming Bill passed in Parliament, it is learned that Indian Cricketers are expected to face a loss of INR 150-200 crore per year from these terminated contracts. A few of the players will face a 5-10 per cent loss of their overall endorsement income, while for some, it may be bigger, ranging from 50 to even 100 percent.
If we take the example of Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar, who were associated with three brands, the loss from their My11Circle endorsements translates to a 33 per cent cut in their earnings.
For some cricketers, the ban on betting apps would mean the complete wiping out of their endorsement income, as these companies were the only brands on their roster. While some players were in ties with Dream11, others like Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh and even Sourav Ganguly endorsed My11Circle.
Virat Kohli, one of the best cricketers in the world, was associated with MPL, while MS Dhoni endorsed Winzo. Kohli's contract was estimated to be around INR 10-12 crore annually, while Rohit Sharma and Dhoni were believed to be in the INR 6-7 crore bracket. The youngsters bagged a contract of around INR 1 crore.
It remains to be seen how these players cope with this ban. Although it is unlikely to effect them as they are likely to focus on their international assignments. The Men in Blue will compete in the upcoming Asia Cup, set to begin on September 9.
