Major Blow! Pakistan Captain Under Investigation

Former Pakistan captain and coach Rashid Latif is making headlines as he comes under investigation by Pakistan’s cybercrime agency following his sharp public criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. After Latif accused the board of playing “divide-and-rule” politics in its captaincy decisions, a formal complaint was lodged by senior PCB legal manager Syed Ali Naqvi.

Meanwhile, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency confirmed that Latif recorded his testimony in Islamabad and Lahore on November 19, triggering two parallel inquiries. In his posts on social platforms, Latif questioned the frequent leadership changes in Pakistan cricket and claimed the country remains unable to produce a stable captain, as he was unhappy with Shaheen Shah Afridi's ODI captaincy. The NCCIA has also raised concerns against former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram for allegedly promoting a betting app. This probe marks a dramatic turn in the ongoing tensions between Latif and the higher cricket authorities in Pakistan.

Pakistan Captain Under Investigation

Rashid Latif, the Pakistan captain under investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following a complaint from the PCB’s senior legal manager. The probe stems from Latif’s public criticism of the board and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, especially over what he called the “divide-and-rule” policy in naming captains. Latif wrote on X: "Shaheen Shah Afridi named ODI captain. Divide and rule policy is a political strategy to gain and maintain power by creating and exploiting divisions within a population, such as religious, ethnic, cricket teams, or class differences,” Latif wrote on X.

He also remarked that “Pakistan is the only country that cannot even produce a decent captain.” The investigation is being conducted via separate inquiries in Islamabad and Lahore, following Latif’s recorded statement, said Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency's spokesperson Najeebullah Hasan on Wednesday.

Latif has also talked about India’s domestic cricket structure and the scale of the Indian Premier League, which he believed has created a disparity when compared with the Pakistan Super League. In a separate development, another complaint has been filed against the best Pakistani bowler, Wasim Akram, for allegedly promoting a betting app, and the NCCIA will also issue him a notice soon.

Rising Tensions between Multan Sultans & the PSL Management

Another Pakistan Cricket News is gaining attention as the tensions between Multan Sultans and the PSL management have intensified after owner Ali Khan Tareen accused the league of withholding crucial renewal and valuation documents. According to Tareen, despite repeated requests over the past month, the PSL has “not responded at all,” leading him to consider legal action.

He revealed that other franchises of the Pakistan Super League have reportedly received the documents while Multan Sultans were “completely ignored.” Tareen also emphasized the need for better governance, structured meetings, and greater franchise representation in PSL committees. The dispute raises serious concerns about transparency within the league’s administration of the biggest T20 league in Pakistan. PSL is also aiming to expand the league and make it one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world.
