ICC Takes Action Against India Pacer After Controversial Night in Women's Asia Cup Final

Kranti Gaud celebrates the wicket

The Women's Asia Cup 2026 final between India and Sri Lanka won't be known for what happened on the field. Instead, the real controversy started after the game when India Women refused to participate in the post-match presentation ceremony.

After a controversial night at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the ICC has decided to take major action against India's fast bowler Kranti Gaud. However, this is not related to the Women's Asia Cup trophy controversy.

Why Was Kranti Gaud Fined After Women's Asia Cup Final?

During the IND-W vs SL-W Asia Cup Final, Kranti Gaud breached the ICC Code of Conduct for players and Player Support Personnel. It is related to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

This controversy took place in the first over of Sri Lanka's innings when Kranti Gaud dismissed the opener Imesha Dulani for 4 runs and made an inappropriate action by showing her the way to the dressing room.

Kranti Gaud's actions might have been prompted by Dulani's boundary off the first ball of the innings. As a result, she looked animated and celebrated the wicket in an aggressive manner.

The Indian quick, who is one of the fastest bowlers in women's cricket, was fined 10 percent of her match fee and was also given one demerit point. It is her first offence in this 24-month period and will make her more cautious going into the upcoming matches.

Second Offence of Women's Asia Cup 2026

It was the second offence of the Women's Asia Cup 2026. Before this incident. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was also fined during the match against India for her aggressive celebration in the league stage.

After Kranti Gaud celebration in Women's Asia Cup final, several fans argued and compared it to Fatima Sana's incident during the India-Pakistan clash. Initially, it seemed that Kranti would not face any punishment but she was finally levelled with an offence.

It was a terrific spell of fast bowling from Kranti Gaud as she finished with 1-8 in 2 overs. The youngster was brilliant in her opening spell but wasn't needed to bowl later.
