Ignored by IPL, Australian Legend Set to Play PSL 2026

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to start from March 26. The tournament will be played for 39 days, where 44 matches will be played, ensuring a thrilling period for cricket fans. The tournament will run until May 3, 2026.

Ahead of the beginning, the PSL has added two new franchises to the game, Sialkot and Hyderabad. With the tournament getting bigger and better, Sialkot Stallionz have made a huge signing for the upcoming season, leaving the cricket fans surprised. Australia's legendary cricketer Steve Smith has reportedly signed a deal with the Stallionz ahead of the tournament.

Will Steve Smith Play PSL 2026?

According to the renowned Pakistani journalist Qadir Khawaja, Sialkot Stallionz have signed Steve Smith through a direct deal. This means that Smith will not participate in the PSL 2026 auction that is scheduled to happen on February 11, but will play for the team. Moreover, this is the first time that the PSL will conduct a player auction in ten years.

While the occasion is huge, Steve Smith PSL team Sialkot Stallionz made the direct signing of one of the best cricketers in the world. The reports suggest that Smith decided to go with the franchise's offer after being impressed by their professional management setup. The Stallionz will try to build a strong squad which will revolve around Smith.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith PSL debut will finally happen this season, as the Australian star is set to play in the league for the first time. The former Australia captain has played some of the biggest cricket leagues in the world including the IPL, BBL, and others. He also registered his name in the Indian Premier League, but didn't find any team.

Steven Smith’s Blockbuster BBL Season

Despite being snubbed from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad, Smith's stand-out performances in the BBL 2025-26 might have led to his signing in PSL. He was in devastating form and slammed 299 runs in six matches at a stellar average of 59.80. He played with an outstanding strike rate of 167.97, and showed that he can be excellent in this format as well.

The right-handed batter went on to slam one of the fastest centuries in BBL history, when he scored a 41-ball 100, increasing his century count to four in the league. Due to his magnificent batting performances, he single-handedly took Sydney Sixers to the final. If we take a look at his overall T20 career, Smith has played in 272 games and scored 6242 runs, at an average of 32.68. He has five centuries and 30 half-centuries under his name.
