Super Over in Asia Cup

The last Super 4 game between India and Sri Lanka went down to the wire. India and Sri Lanka played a terrific game of cricket which went down to the Super Over. It was a thrilling game of cricket where all the three results were possible. But after 40 overs of enthralling cricket, scores of both teams were tied.

In the end, it was India who used all their experience to win the match. At one point, it seemed like the Men in Blue had lost the match when Pathum Nissanka was going strong along side Dasun Shanaka. During his knock, Nissanka showed why he is considered one of the best openers in the world. However, Nissanka's wicket turned the tables and helped India tie the game.

Harshit Rana's Terrific Last Over

With 12 needed off the final over and Pathum Nissanka on strike, it was Sri Lanka's game to lose. However, Harshit Rana picked up Nissanka's wicket off the first ball to change the momentum. The equation quickly became 7 off 2 balls, as India seemed to tighten their grip on the game. However, Shanaka's streaky edge went for a boundary behind the wicketkeeper.

Suryakumar and the bowler took their time for the final ball. Finally, Rana bowled a back of a length delivery which was smashed down to long-on. However, he miscued the shot completely and it allowed the batters to come back for the second easily. Dasun Shanaka could have come down for the third run as Harshit had spilled the ball. However, he wasn't aware of it, which allowed the game to go into a Super Over.

Super Over in Asia Cup 2025

The Super Overs in Asia Cup are not common. However, this match had produced some of the brilliant moments already. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Kusal Perera off the first ball of his Super Over to land a huge breakthrough on the opposition. SL were clearly under pressure as one more wicket would have ended their hopes.

Arshdeep kept bowling wide yorkers and executed them brilliantly. An incident had occurred where Shanaka was given out initially but the decision had to be overturned. However, his luck ran out soon as he was dismissed off the fifth ball of the match as Arshdeep dismissed him to complete a fine super over.

Needing just 3 runs to win, India's captain Suryakumar Yadav didn't waste any time to finish off the game. Wanindu Hasaranga, one of the best spinners in the world, bowled a googly first up which Suryakumar was able to punch it past the extra cover region for three runs. Thus, India required just one ball to finish off the game. The IND vs SL super over was a terrific end to a game that had given so much to the fans and the viewers.

With this win, India showed that they have the ability to win from any situation. However, they will rue a poor performance and aim to come back stronger for the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. It was a high-scoring game with players from both teams giving their best despite it being a dead rubber.
