ECB Honours Indian Origin Cricketers With T20 Hall of Fame, Will BCCI Follow Next?

3 min
ECB Hall of Fame

The England and Wales Cricket Board has introduced a new T20 Hall of Fame to honour individuals who have made a mark on domestic T20 cricket through both their performances and overall influence on the game. For its inaugural edition, a shortlist featuring six male and six female candidates has been finalised.

As per a report from Sky Sports, a specially appointed panel made up of former cricketers, broadcasters, and media professionals will determine the initial inductees, selecting two men and two women from the list. In addition to the panel’s evaluation, fans will play a role through a public voting system, which will carry an impact on the outcome.

Who are the Indian Origin Cricketers in ECB Hall of Fame?

There are two Indian origin cricketers inducted into the T20 Hall of Fame by one of the richest cricket boards in the world, the ECB: Samit Patel and Ravi Bopara. Samit's dedication is defined by his longevity, as he has featured in every single edition of the Vitality Blast since the tournament began in 2003.

Opening Quote

Samit Patel said, “To be shortlisted for the T20 Hall of Fame is something that I'm hugely proud of, especially alongside some great names. It means a lot to be recognised for what I've tried to give to the domestic game over so many years. To be one of the first players inducted would be an incredible honour and something I'd feel very privileged to be part of.”

Closing Quote

On the other hand, Ravi Bopara has also been a key figure in domestic T20 cricket and was part of Essex’s title-winning campaign in 2019. He has built an outstanding all-round record across 236 matches.

Bopara stands out as one of the very few players to rank within the top ten for both most runs and wickets in the competition’s history. His batting tally of 5,290 runs places him third on the all-time list, while his 169 wickets place him eighth among leading bowlers.
