Indian Team Denied Spin Bowling Practice Ahead of Sri Lanka Test Series

The Indian cricket team's tour of Sri Lanka is all set to begin from August 15. The tour will consist of two Test matches which will be important for Team India considering the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

However, the mind games have begun from the home side even before the start of the series. The IND vs SL warm up match, which will be played from August 7, will have grass on it, which is different from the usual pitches in Sri Lanka.

According to a report in RevSportz, the Indian team management has expressed their disappointment on the nature of the pitch for the warm-up match to be played at Nondesripts Cricket Club (NCC) Ground in Colombo.

The IND vs SL warm up pitch is believed to have grass on it. The ground official A Francke has revealed that the grass has been left on the orders of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

However, he also expected it to be a surface good for batting. The pitches for the IND vs SL Test series are likely to helpful for the spinners, given the history of the island nation. Since India has struggled against spin lately despite having some of the best batsmen in the world, this series will be a tough test for them.

The decision to have a pace-friendly surface for the Indian team practice match in Sri Lanka may be not to allow the visitors to train on the pitch favoring spinners. These are the be mind games which the home teams usually follow before any series.

Series Likely To Be Dominated By Spin

The India vs Sri Lanka Test series is likely to be dominated by the spinners. Both sides have produced one of the best spinners in the world over the years. India have Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Saransh Jain, who will be aiming to make the most of the conditions.

On the other hand, home team Sri Lanka are yet to announce their squad. Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya is likely to lead their spin bowling department with off-spinner Ramesh Mendis providing the much needed experience. Dunith Wellalage might also be selected and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva will also have a role to play with his off-spin bowling.
