Worst Over In Cricket History? Ex-CSK Player Bowls 18 Balls in an Over

When we talk about cricket, bizarre moments are almost synonymous with the sport. There are many players who have etched their names in the history of the game with some unfortunate moments. This time, in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 match, John Hastings over changed the game. It eventually became the last over of the match by default because of 12 wides and one No-ball.

The former Chennai Super Kings pacer bowled 18 balls in the over against Pakistan Champions, helping them clinch victory by ten wickets. It wasn't one of those regular matches where the fans got to see the vintage Australian batting. Instead, their batting was extremely disappointing. On the top of that, Hastings delivered one of the worst overs in cricket history, which is most likely to be remembered for a long time.

What happened in the Australia vs Pakistan match?

The match started with Pakistan winning the toss and forcing Australia to bat first. The fans present in the stadium would have hoped to see some fiery batting by the Australian legends. On the contrary, the Aussies were bowled out for just 74 runs. Shaun Marsh and Chris Lynn opened the innings but were dismissed with 20 runs on the board. None of the batters could hold the innings together, as Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Pakistani bowlers were outstanding, sticking to their lines and lengths. The credit goes to the veteran off-spinner Saeed Ajmal for claiming six wickets. Ben Dunk was the highest run-scorer for Australia, scoring 26 runs off 17 balls, which included three fours and two maximums. Apart from him, Callum Ferguson scored 10 runs in 15 balls. No other batter touched the double-digit mark. Moreover, Imad Wasim, Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan were also amongst the wickets column for Pakistan.

While the score was pretty low to defend, the Australian bowlers had a task in hand. However, they failed massively as Pakistan won the match by ten wickets. Khan and Maqsood completed the game in 7.5 overs, thanks to John Hastings WCL 2025 over. The bowler started with five back-to-back wides and then bowled two legal deliveries.

In total, only five of them were legal and went on to concede 19 runs. It could also be termed as theh worst over in cricket history. The batters scored just six runs off the bat and the rest were extras. It was a disappointing match for the Aussies in terms of batting as well as bowling.

Pakistan Qualify for WCL 2025 Final

With this win, the Men in Green qualified for the semi-finals of the WCL 2025 by finishing top of the points table, where they were to face India. However, the Indian players have decided to boycott the game. While it's not official so far, but Pakistan have earned themselves a spot in the final because of the walkover by the India Champions Team.

The Men in Blue had a similar campaign during their clash in the league stage as well. According to a PTI report, Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, among others, have expressed their unwillingness to play the knockout match against Pakistan.

Moreover, one of the league’s top sponsors, EaseMyTrip, announced that the company would not be associated with the semifinal between India and Pakistan. Since Pakistan is likely to earn a place in the final, they will face the winners of the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia. India Champions are the defending champions, having won the inaugural edition of the tournament earlier.
