England have added former Ashes-winning star Kevin Pietersen to their white-ball coaching setup as the team begins preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. The 46-year-old will take up the position of specialist mentor, bringing his international experience and knowledge of limited-overs cricket into the England camp.

Kevin Pietersen mentorship stint with the national side will begin during England’s upcoming white-ball fixtures against Sri Lanka. His involvement will extend well beyond the immediate series, with Pietersen expected to work with the team during England’s winter assignments in Australia and South Africa.

He is also set to remain part of the setup next summer when England host Pakistan and one of the best cricket teams, New Zealand, in white-ball series. He will then be involved in the squad’s preparations for the 2027 50-over World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Kevin Pietersen Joins England in a Mentorship Role

England white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum welcomed Pietersen’s addition to the coaching group, and mentioned the former batter’s impact on English cricket and the value of having someone with his experience around the team.

McCullum said, "I'm particularly excited for our batters to get the opportunity to work with him. KP has a unique understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level, which will be hugely valuable to our players. We've always respected each other and had a strong appreciation for what the other brings to the game, so I'm really looking forward to working together."

Kevin Pietersen represented England across all three formats during a decade-long career. He featured in 136 ODIs and 37 T20 internationals, scoring more than 5,500 runs in limited-overs cricket.

Pietersen was equally influential in the longest format, finishing his Test career with 8,181 runs from 104 appearances. Beyond his playing career, Pietersen has also taken up mentoring responsibilities in franchise cricket. He was part of the Delhi Capitals setup as a mentor during the 2025 Indian Premier League.
