Marnus Labuschagne Becomes Captain After Australia's Disappointing T20 WC Campaign

Just like the Indian Premier League (IPL), the stage is set for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. The tournament is all set to begin on Thursday, March 28 with Lahore Qalandars taking on Hyderabad Kingsmen in the tournament opener.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will be making their first-ever appearance in the PSL, and they have already made the headlines. The franchise on Tuesday, March 17, announced Australian star Marnus Labuschagne as their new captain for the tournament.

Marnus Labuschagne Becomes Captain in PSL

Labuschagne, one of the best Test batsmen in the world, was one of the few overseas picks for Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in PSL 2026. The star batter has now been handed the responsibility and he would be keen to script history and take his team to win in the first edition itself.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen made the decision public through a social media post with the caption: “The captain has been crowned”.

The decision of the appointment of Marnus Labuschagne PSL captain over local players comes as a big surprise. The franchises often tend to hand the leadership to local players as it narrows the bridge between youngsters and big stars.

Moreover, this will be the first time that Labuschange will be captaining a team in the overseas league. This will be a great opportunity for him as well to revive his career and get into the Australian T20 setup after they had a poor ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

The new Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne has played 59 T20s in his career and has slammed 1381 runs at a strike rate of over 126 and an average of over 26. He has also scored 8 half-centuries and would be keen to improve his numbers this PSL.

Hyderabad Kingsmen Schedule for PSL 2026

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will play the tournament opener and then will take on Quetta Gladiators on March 29. After that, they will be taking on Multan Sultans on April 1 in Multan before they go to Karachi to play against Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United.
