Mohammad Nabi 5 Sixes Record: Afghanistan Veteran Tears Apart Sri Lanka

Nabi etched his name into the record books as he collected 32 runs in the last over of Afghanistan's innings. It is a world record in T20Is in the final over. Nabi bailed the Afghans from a precarious situation which will allow them to come hard with the ball during the second innings of the match.

The final over began with Afghanistan's score at 137-7. Eyeing a score of 150, Mohammad Nabi had other ideas. SL captain Charith Asalanka decided to give the last over to the left-arm spinner Dunish Wellalage and it proved to be costly. The first three balls went for huge sixes. While the next ball was a wide, it didn't break Nabi's momentum.
The veteran smashed the next two balls for as many sixes. Just when Yuvraj Singh 6 sixes record was at risk, Wellalage got it right and bowled it full outside off stump. Nabi was run out but hogged the limelight with 60 runs off just 22 deliveries. He gave the necessary impetus and push to Afghanistan and his innings was laced with 3 fours and 6 sixes. He had a terrific strike-rate of 272.73 in the innings.

Afghanistan Fizzled Out After Fiery Powerplay

Earlier, Afghanistan were off to a rollicking start in the Powerplay but the Sri Lankan bowlers pulled things back in style. The openers in the form of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sediqullah Atal scored 14 and 18 runs respectively before perishing away.

Nuwan Thushara was the pick of the bowlers for the Lankans as he bagged 4 wickets in the 1st innings. He had an excellent economy of 4.5 and conceded only 18 runs in 4 overs. He put a plug on the run-scoring and bowled extremely well in the powerplay inspite of a barrage of good shots from the Afghan openers.

Dushmantha Chameera, Dunith Wellalage and Dasun Shanaka bagged one wicket each for Sri Lanka. The middle-overs were miserly from the Sri Lankan bowlers and they hardly gave anything to let Afghanistan break free. Ibrahim Zadran scored 24 runs but couldn't carry on to play a big knock.

If Sri Lanka win today, it will be them and Bangladesh who will be qualifying for the Super 4s from Group B. However, if Afghanistan win this game, it will be Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, who will be advancing to the Super 4s. This is a virtual quarter-final for Afghanistan and they would be keen on bagging the honours.
