Mohammed Shami Produces Breathtaking Spell a Day After Being Dropped

The Indian Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been at his best in the domestic circuit this year for Bengal. Eyeing for an Indian comeback once again, the premier pacer has delivered for his state team in the domestic circuit.

After impressing many with his performances in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Mohammed Shami looked a bit rusty in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026. He struggled to find his rhythm in the first few games but made a strong statement in the match against Services on Thursday, December 4.

Mohammed Shami SMAT Performance Against Himachal Pradesh

Mohammed Shami took the new ball in the Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh match and made the ball talk. The premier pacer removed both the openers to take his team off to a flying start. He didn’t stop there as he then returned later in the innings to take two more wickets.

Shami removed G. Kochar, R Chauhan, N Sharma and V. Gaur to complete a magical four-fer. The fast bowler was pretty economical as well as he returned with the figures of 4/13 in 3.2 overs and showed why he is among the most dangerous bowlers in the world.

His breathtaking spell came just a day after he was not included in the Indian team for the T20I series against South Africa. Both teams will be up against each other in the five-match series, which will begin from December 9 in Cuttack.

Mohammed Shami Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy performance would surely have been noticed by the selectors, with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 around the corner. He has been consistently performing in the domestic circuit and has proved that he is still one of the best bowlers in the world.

Mohammed Shami Dropped After ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Mohammed Shami last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and after that, he has been ignored by the selectors. With India losing the Test series against South Africa at home by a margin of 2-0, the Indian selection committee faced a lot of criticism for not picking Shami.

Recently, there was also a tiff between Ajit Agarkar and Mohammed Shami. When the pacer was not picked in the Test series against the West Indies, he gave “not fully fit” as a reason behind his not getting a chance. However, Shami came up with an immediate reply.

He said that he is fully fit and if his fitness is the concern then how is he playing in the Ranji Trophy? After that, he also didn’t make it into the Australia tour followed by the South Africa tests as well as the ongoing ODIs.

Shami was recently traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. It remains to be seen when he will make a comeback in the India national cricket team squad.
