India’s domestic cricket season has already begun, and now it is time for one of the premier red-ball tournaments, the Ranji Trophy, to begin on October 11, 2026. When it comes to this historic tournament, one team that cannot be overlooked is 42-time champion Mumbai. The team has been one of the most star-studded sides in Ranji Trophy history since its inception.

Last season, Mumbai were knocked out in the fourth quarter-final against Karnataka at one of the smallest cricket stadiums in India, Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai. This season, they will be aiming to bounce back and add another title to their impressive record. The team management has already announced the squad for their opening game against Chandigarh, with a few notable names missing from the squad.

In this article, we will provide all the details about the Mumbai Ranji Trophy 2026-27 schedule, squad and match timings. We will also look at the reasons behind the absence of some big names, including the World Cup-winning skipper.

Mumbai Ranji Trophy Schedule 2026-27

One of the most successful domestic teams in India, Mumbai is ready for another exciting Ranji Trophy season. According to the official Mumbai Ranji Trophy Schedule 2026-27, Mumbai will begin their campaign on October 11, 2026, against Chandigarh at Wankhede Stadium.

They will then face Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Railways before the mid-season white-ball break. The Ranji Trophy action will resume in 17th January 2027, with Mumbai taking on Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan as they look to finish at the top of the group standings.

Mumbai Ranji Trophy Sqaud 2026-27

The Mumbai Cricket Association has officially announced the Mumbai Ranji Trophy Squad 2026-27, handing experienced batter Siddhesh Lad the captaincy, while relieving Shardul Thakur of leadership duties and rewarding Lad for his impressive 774-run campaign last season.

Promising 19-year-old batter Ayush Mhatre has been named vice-captain as part of the team’s plan to develop young leadership for the future. Meanwhile, India’s T20 World Cup-winning star Suryakumar Yadav was surprisingly left out despite confirming his availability late, with selectors pointing to his absence from pre-season training camps and limited recent red-ball match practice as the main reasons for his exclusion.

One of the best batsmen in India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has also been included in the squad but was not named vice-captain. The decision keeps the leadership role with Mhatre, who has been identified as a young player for future leadership responsibilities.
