MS Dhoni Set to Inaugurate New International Cricket Stadium
India's former captain MS Dhoni is all ready to inaugurate the new international stadium in Madurai. The inauguration ceremony will take place on October 9. Moreover, the stadium was built by Velammal Education Trust with the support of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). The new stadium is set to enhance the sports infrastructure of Madurai, encouraging more players to take up cricket and excel in it.
Meanwhile, it is located on an 11.5-acre site near Velammal Hospital on Chinthamani Ring Road. The TNCA and the Velammal Education Trust have invested Rs 325 crore to build the stadium, along with features such as multiple practice pitches, a players’ lounge, a gym, an ambulance, medical facilities, and ample car parking space.
They have given utmost importance to a well-designed drainage system, which will be quite helpful during the rainy season. The drainage system will ensure quick water flow without causing any trouble to the ongoing matches. Moreover, before building the lighting towers, everything was consulted with the cricket ground experts from Australia and England.
This illustrates the efforts made by management before building the stadium. The only issue is the seating capacity. The gallery is designed to seat 20,000 spectators, with the first phase already providing 7,300 seats. Additionally, approximately 197 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the ground and its surroundings, making it suitable for international matches as well.
