The India national cricket team have suffered a massive blow ahead of the T20I series against the Australia national cricket team. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the five-match T20I series, to be played from October 29 to November 8. This series will be played after the ODI series.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is doubtful for the series, which will see Suryakumar Yadav leading the young Indian side after the Asia Cup 2025 win. Reddy was picked in the Indian squad for both the ODI and T20I series against Australia as a replacement for the injured Hardik Pandya. He made his debut in the first match at Perth and also featured in the second match at the Adelaide Oval.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Injury Update

According to the IND vs AUS injury update, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy missed the third ODI against Australia due to an injury. It was revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he had suffered a left quadriceps injury during the previous match in Adelaide. The all-rounder is under the observation of the medical team and will be assessed daily.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide and was subsequently unavailable for selection for the third ODI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him on a daily basis,” the BCCI statement.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made his ODI debut in Perth, had a decent outing on his debut. The all-rounder batted down the order and hit two big sixes in the last over, taking his team to a big total. However, in the second game, he struggled to get going.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from a left leg (quadriceps) injury he picked up during the second ODI in Adelaide, is now also suffering from neck spasms. This has slowed down his recovery and affected his movement. The BCCI medical team is keeping a close watch on his condition.

Importance of T20I Series

The T20I series will be extremely important for India as it will begin their road to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka in January-February next year. They will be tested against a quality Australian side, which has one of the best T20 batsmen in the world.

India will be entering the series on the back of the Asia Cup 2025 title win. They were sensational in the entire tournament, winning all the games including three victories over arch-rivals Pakistan. They would be keen to carry on that confidence and make a statement in these conditions.

India have already lost the ODI series and a good performance in the T20Is will help them finish this tour on a high. They have some high-class T20 players like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma in the team. The best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, is also back in the team after missing the ODI series.
