Nitish Kumar Reddy

The ongoing series has already created plenty of discussions, especially after the recent 30-run defeat to South Africa after 15 years. The loss not just gave Africa a historic win but also took away India’s fortress down along with it. The match exposed the Indian side's inconsistencies and overall balance, and with it, India is now set to face South Africa for the must-win encounter in the 2nd Test of the ongoing series at Guwahati.

Coach Gautam Gambhir and management had a lot of expectations from Indian All-Rounder Axar Patel in IND vs SA 1st Test. Although, He couldn't deliver much as he took only 1 wicket and scored 26 runs while chasing the target. Now, management is seeking all the possible combinations and are looking for the safest replacement option for the must win match. As the second Test approaches, and new reports are coming up, it is reported that India has called out a key player to add to the squad and increase strength in the all-round department.

Nitish Kumar Reddy likely to be part of IND vs SA 2nd Test

With concerns of Shubman Gill injury and his possible replacement options, Selectors and management have shifted their focus towards building a stronger and more balanced XI for the Guwahati Test. Among all available options, Nitish Kumar Reddy has emerged as one of the top contenders to be included in the squad. Earlier than this, Nitish was dropped from the IND vs SA Test squad and was asked to play in an India A fixture vs South Africa. But with ongoing concerns and team stability, he has been called up early and will be training with the team during the optional practice session at the Eden Gardens on November 18.
As per the TOI report, BCCI has mentioned that Nitish Kumar Reddy has been called up for the India vs South Africa 2nd Test, which means now he will miss the third India A game on November 19. Reddy played two List A fixtures for India A, but he didn’t bat or bowl in the second game. He scored 37 and returned with 1/18 in the first game of the three-match series in Rajkot.

India’s probable playing XI and Test combination updates

India’s lineup for the second Test match is expected to look different from the first IND vs SA Test in Kolkata. Kuldeep Yadav is likely to miss as he is getting married at the end of November and has asked for leave from management. In his absence, Akash Deep could make it to the squad. The Indian team is looking for its best possible combination, with Gill injured, Sai Sudharsan can be picked up in his place, or even Padikkal can make a comeback. So if Reddy joins the team, he could replace Axar Patel and would be an ideal pick if he bats lower down the order. It will allow India to match up and keep the left-right combination going on.
