Pat Cummins

The Australian Cricket Team have suffered a massive blow ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Premier fast bowler Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the entire tournament, which will run from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka. This is a massive development, as Pat Cummins was earlier deemed fit to take part in the majority of the tournament.

As per the reports, it was suggested that he would miss the first few games and would join the team for the second round, which will be the Super 8 stage. But now it is confirmed that one of the best bowlers in the world will not be taking part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Pat Cummins Ruled Out T20 World Cup 2026 Due to Back Injury

Pat Cummins, who has been battling back injury since July last year, has been ruled out of the tournament with the same injury. According to reports, it is suggested that the Australia Test captain needs more time to recover.

Pat Cummins, who was initially named in Australia's provisional 15-man squad, played in one game during Ashes 2025-26, but after that, missed the last two games. He had experienced some discomfort, and the management wanted him to give proper time to recover. It is now expected that Pat Cummins will make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is expected to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Pat Cummins Replacement named for T20 World Cup 2026

With Pat Cummins getting ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026, Cricket Australia was quick to name a replacement. The selectors have added Ben Dwarshuis to the side, considering his consistent performances in the BBL and the domestic circuit. Speaking on his addition, Australia selector Tony Dodemaide hailed Ben Dwarshuis as a ready replacement. He said:

Opening Quote

With Pat needing more time to recover from his back injury, Ben is a ready replacement who offers a left-arm-pace option as well as dynamic fielding and late-order hitting. We believe his ability to swing the ball at a good pace, along with clever variations, will be well-suited to the conditions we expect and overall structure of the squad.

Closing Quote

In the recently concluded BBL 2025-26, Dwarshuis picked 16 wickets in 12 games. He would be eager to carry that same confidence and help his team win the T20 World Cup 2026. Apart from this, Australia have made another massive change to their squad. Matthew Short has been dropped from the squad, and in his place, the selectors have added Matt Renshaw.
