Who is Behind South Africa Cricket Team Success in ICC Tournaments?

The South Africa Cricket Team has finally turned years of heartbreak into triumph with their recent success in ICC tournaments. The achievements are not just about on-field brilliance, but also reflect the hard work, planning, and unity built behind the scenes as well. The South Africa Women’s Cricket Team has made history, on 29th October 2025, they beat England by 125 runs in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 1st semi-final in Guwahati.

South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt smashed 169 off 143 balls, taking her team to the final. Tazmin Brits and Chloe Tryon gave solid support as the team scored 319/7. Then one of the best women cricketer, Marizanne Kapp took five wickets, bowling out the Three Lions for 194.

This is the revenge of the heartbreak of defeats that they had against England in 2017 and 2022. After starting with a 10-wicket loss to England, the Proteas won five group games in a row. Now, for the first time, they are in the World Cup final, which is scheduled to be played on 2nd November.

Just 4 months earlier, the men’s South Africa Cricket Team also ended a long wait. In June 2025, they won the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, beating one of the best cricket teams in the world, Australia by five wickets. Aiden Markram led the batting unit with 136 runs, Temba Bavuma made 66, and Kagiso Rabada took five wickets. It was their first ICC title since 1998. Both teams are now shining bright!

South Africa Cricket Team Rise in ICC Tournament

The South Africa Cricket Team is having a dream year in 2025! The men’s team ended a 27-year wait by winning the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s, beating Australia by five wickets while chasing 282. Aiden Markram’s 136, captain Temba Bavuma’s 66, and Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul sealed a historic win, their maiden ICC title since 1998.

But behind this success stands the real heroes, the management and support staff. Under the Director of Cricket Graeme Smith, South Africa rebuilt a fearless, balanced team. The coaching staff’s planning and Bavuma’s calm leadership were key in turning years of heartbreak into glory.

The women’s team matched that magic too, storming into the ICC Women’s World Cup final after crushing England by 125 runs in Guwahati. Captain Laura Wolvaardt led from the front with a stunning 169, while coach Hilton Moreeng’s guidance and smart rotation of players kept their campaign strong.
