In the ongoing 3rd Test match between India and England at the Lord's, London, the hosts are looking in good position as of now. The English batters have shown good intent on the field, making it tough for the Indian bowlers to take wickets. After two sessions, England are 176-4, as we write.

India have picked up two quick wickets after tea, which has raised their spirits. However, the visitors received a huge blow on the first day as their wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was seen leaving the field after suffering a blow.

Rishabh Pant Injury Lord's Test

Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant walked off the field mid-innings during the second session of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test. During the 34th over, when Jasprit Bumrah was bowling to Ollie Pope, the ball went straight to Pant and hit the index fingertips of his left hand. He dived to his left to catch the ball but ended up in an uncomfortable position. Hence, he went back to the pavilion and is under treatment.

Pant was seen in severe pain and immediately called upon the physio for further treatment. After taking several minutes, he walked off the field along with the physio. In his place, substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel took the gloves. Rishabh Pant injury is a huge blow for India as he is also the team's vice-captain.

Joe Root Carries England's Hopes

Unlike the last two Test matches, England captain Ben Stokes decided to bat first on winning the toss in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test. While he trusted his batters to put up a great show, the openers ended up disappointing him yet again. After giving a slow start, Ben Duckett was dismissed on 23 runs off 40 balls in the 14th over. It was India's all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy who drew the first blood. Surprisingly, just three balls later, he dismissed Zak Crawley on 18 runs off 43 balls, who looked in good touch, hitting four boundaries. But the tables turned for England when Ollie Pope and Joe Root formed a stable partnership of 109 runs. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Pope on 44 runs off 104 balls.

Keeping the ‘Bazball’ approach aside, the English batters are looking strong and are in a commendable position with Joe Root sticking on the crease. After two Test matches, Root has finally found his form back, and is currently batting on 71 runs off 141 balls, as we write. He is getting the perfect support from skipper Stokes from the other end, who is on 19 runs off 39 balls. It looks like the English batters want to bat slowly and stick around for one more day to reach a good total.

Rishabh Pant's injury will affect the Indian team a lot since he is one of the best batters in the team and knows his way around the English bowlers. Moreover, for Rishabh Pant Lords Test match will be extremely important as it's one of the best places to play cricket. Not being able to be a part of the game or get to bat will not be something that would interest the vice-captain of India. Currently, there are no other updates on Rishabh Pant injury.

The Indian bowlers aren't looking very comfortable as the batters are set on the crease. The two best wicket-takers in the previous match, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, haven't opened their accounts yet. India will need to bowl out the hosts as early as possible to be in the game. If Root sticks around for a long time, there's nothing that would stop him from smashing tons of runs.
