The Indian national cricket team is all set to witness a massive change in ODI cricket. As per the reports in the Indian Express, Rohit Sharma is all set to be removed as India's ODI captain. It is a huge development as it brings an end to an era where the Men in Blue achieved plenty of success.

It is learned that Shubman Gill is all set to replace Rohit Sharma as the captain in the 50-over format. Gill is currently India's captain in Tests and was Rohit's deputy in ODIs. It's time for him to become India new ODI captain now.

Shubman Gill: India New ODI Captain

The reports claimed that Shubman Gill will be taking over the baton from Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. The series will begin on 19th October in Perth and will conclude in Sydney on 25th October. The second game will be played in Adelaide on the 23rd.

The reports added that the Indian selectors are looking at the bigger picture and want Shubman Gill to lead the team in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. They want a young gun to take charge as India ODI captain and Rohit is 38 currently and will be 40 by the time India plays the next World Cup.

The selectors called Shubman Gill yesterday and informed him about their decision. The young batter was also part of the selection meeting for the squad of Australia series squad. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was also kept in the loop.

Shubman Gill impressed many with his leadership during the test series against England. The batter was given the responsibility to lead the team in the longest format of the game ahead of the England series and did a great job with the bat as well as a leader.

Under his leadership, India drew the Test series against England 2-2. Also, with the bat, Gill was the best batter in the series as he slammed 754 runs to go with four centuries. His best innings came at Edgbaston, where he scored 269 runs. With this series, he stamped his authority as one of the best batsmen in the world going around.

Rohit Sharma getting removed as the India's ODI captain comes as a massive shock. The batter has done nothing wrong in the ODIs and is also credited for changing the entire Indian mindset.
