Sarfaraz Khan

The ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 has seen some eye-catching performances by many batters as well as bowlers. The tournament serves as a great audition for the players as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is around the corner.

The IPL 2026 auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16 and will see some of the big Indian as well as overseas players going under the hammer. Some of the young as well as experienced Indian players have made a great impact in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 and surely would go under the radar of many teams.

Sarfaraz Khan Century: Strong Message Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

One of the names that shone with the bat was Sarfaraz Khan. Playing for Mumbai in the group stage clash against Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow on Tuesday, the right-hander slammed his maiden ton in the shortest format of the game.

Sarfaraz Khan SMAT ton came in just 47 balls, and on the second last ball of Mumbai’s innings. Sarfaraz, whose highest score was 67, hammered eight fours and seven sixes during the course of his innings as he stayed unbeaten at 100 against Assam. Sarfaraz Khan’s innings with the bat helped Mumbai post a total of 220 for 4. This innings surely would lift his confidence as he looked rusty in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, where he was expected to set the stage on fire. He has shown again that he has the caliber to become one of the best batsman in India.

In the game against Assam, Sarfaraz Khan got an opportunity to play in place of Shivam Dube. He was also asked to bat up the order, and he made sure that he cashed the opportunity, hitting his maiden century in the format. His knock will be a great confidence booster for Mumbai going ahead into the tournament, as they will lose Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube for the next round of SMAT. The duo is expected to be picked in the Indian squad for the T20Is against South Africa, beginning December 9.

Sarfaraz Khan's Experience in IPL

Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the finest names in Indian cricket. Since the last few years, he has been scoring runs consistently in the domestic circuit. There were a lot of talks related to his comeback in the test side as well, especially with him scoring runs, but he wasn’t considered for any of the series this year at home.

With his century in the SMAT 2025, his goal now would be to find a bidder in the auction and hope to be picked by one of the best teams in IPL. He has featured in IPL but hasn’t been able to make a great impact. He has played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Delhi Capitals (DC). The right-hander has played 50 games in the IPL and has slammed 585 runs to go with one fifty. Overall in T20s, he has played 97 games and has hit 1288 runs at a strike rate of around 130, to go with three fifties and one hundred.
