The right-hander is now among the two batters who have hit a century in the longest format of the game after a gap of eight years. It is a huge achievement for the West Indies batter whose Test career hasn't been smooth.

Shai Hope achieved the feat in the second innings of the ongoing second Test between the Indian national cricket team and the West Indies Cricket Team. The right-hander showed why he is regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world. The last match of the series between India and West Indies is underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

After having a horrible outing in the first innings, West Indies have made a strong comeback in the second innings after being asked to follow on. One of the key architects behind the comeback has been Shai Hope, who walked out to bat at No. 4 and played a sensational innings.

Shai Hope along with John Campbell (115) led the West Indies' fight back and made Indian bowlers look clueless. The duo added 177 runs for the third wicket and made sure that they helped their team end the deficit and take a lead in the second innings.

After Campbell got out following his century, Shai Hope joined him and slammed a terrific century. His innings came at a time when the West Indies were down. He took the onus and not only did he bail his team out of trouble but also ended his century drought in Tests. Shai Hope Test hundred was his first in eight years and the first after 58 innings. With this knock, he equaled Don Bradman, the Godfather of cricket. His last ton came the against England back in 2017 when he hit twin centuries. This was also his third Test ton overall.

Shai Hope Perishes Soon After his Century

Shai Hope, however, couldn’t carry on for a long after that as he got out two overs later. Mohammed Siraj provided his team with the crucial breakthrough as he set up the West Indies batter brilliantly to send his stumps flying in the 84th over of the innings.

Shai Hope was back in the hut after playing an innings of 103 runs off 214 balls. The right-hander also slammed 12 boundaries and two sixes during his stay at the crease. His heroics with the bat put West Indies in a decent position in the IND vs WI 2nd Test and with the ton, he seems to have locked his place in the team.

Coming to the ongoing series, India are 1-0 ahead after they bagged a brilliant innings and 140 runs in the first test in Ahmedabad. Despite the solid fightback of the West Indies, the Shubman Gill-led side looks favorites to win the second match as well.
