Shreyas Iyer Takes Break from Cricket: Know the Reason

As per a report in Express Sports, Shreyas Iyer has decided to take a break from red-ball cricket after he withdrew himself, hours before the second first-class game versus Australia A.
Iyer has stated in the letter that he has been facing fatigue and stiffness issues in his back, and he needs a break.
However, as per a report in TOI, one of the best batsmen in IPL, Shreyas Iyer, remains in the mix for a spot in the Test Squad versus West Indies. If he gets selected, he might come out of his sabbatical.
Shreyas Iyer Takes Indefinite Break From Red-Ball Cricket
The Punjab Kings captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has clearly stated in the letter that he can’t be on the field for more than 4 days because of his back issues.
He highlighted in the same letter that he had missed a few overs by taking a break in between overs in the Ranji Trophy, but the same isn’t possible with India A cricket
“He has informed us that he (Iyer) will be taking a break from red ball cricket, and it’s good that he has cleared it out because selectors are now clear about his future. He won’t be playing red ball cricket in the coming months, and he has informed the board that he will assess his body in future in consultation with physios and trainer and take a call on it,” said a source of Express Sports.
Shreyas Iyer Has Played 14 Tests for the Indian National Team
The 30-year-old batter has played 14 Tests for India and has amassed 811 runs at an average of 36.9.
Shreyas Iyer has been a rock-solid figure for the Indian Cricket Team in red-ball cricket and can solve India’s long-term problems in the middle order.
After Karun Nair had a disastrous and disappointing India vs England series, Iyer could be the replacement for Nair in the India vs West Indies Test Series.
Shreyas Iyer could join the ranks of one of the best batsmen in the world, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle-order and can provide a lot of stability and solidity which Team India needs in the middle-order.
Iyer had made his debut for India way back in November 2021 and had scored a century and a half-century in his two innings, thereby becoming the 1st India Cricketer to do so. He was also the 17th Indian to score a Test Hundred in his debut game and had set the stage on fire against the Kiwis at home.
