Shreyas Iyer Vijay Hazare Trophy Comeback

As per the latest updates around the domestic tournament and squad, Shreyas Iyer is expected to travel to Jaipur for Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy matches and is also likely to play the ODI series against New Zealand. The 31-year-old will join Mumbai’s squad in Jaipur on January 2. He’s expected to feature in the fifth and sixth group-stage fixtures. On January 3 against Maharashtra and January 6 against Himachal Pradesh.

After this, Shreyas will join India's camp for the New Zealand ODI series and miss the last group-stage encounter against Punjab on January 8. He is expected to slot straight into Shardul Thakur’s Mumbai side for the tournament. Mumbai is currently looking to strengthen its middle order, and Shreyas Iyer injury clearance has come at the very right point. He has been an important player for Mumbai in domestic cricket and will add experience and strength to the squad as one of the best ODI batsman in the world. An MCA official told the Times of India.

Iyer has been out of the cricket scene for a good period of time now; his injury kept him away, and he was kept under medical rehabilitation for improvement. Shreyas Iyer injury happened in October during India’s ODI series against Australia, where he suffered a serious spleen injury while fielding near the boundary. Due to this injury, he missed the next home ODI series against South Africa and later the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy 2025.

With news of making a comeback to the domestic, Shreyas Iyer is also likely to be part of the upcoming New Zealand series. The BCCI is expected to announce India’s squad for the New Zealand ODI series on January 3 or 4, and Shreyas is expected to return to the side. In his absence, Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced him in the South Africa series, and if he features in the upcoming tour, Tilak Varma might miss out.
