Middle order batter Shreyas Iyer is likely to take over the role of India new ODI captain now. Iyer, who is currently the vice-captain of the team, might lead the team in both the T20I and the ODI formats.
"Expect some changes when the new T20 team is announced. We are looking at one player helming both the T20 and ODI sides. Our focus is on both now. The BCCI wants to look at young talent while also giving opportunities to experienced players. Shreyas has done exceedingly well in the last few years; his injuries have been unfortunate," the source was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Despite being out of the T20I side, Shubman Gill is a vital player for India in the ODI format. He has been one of the best ODI batsmen in the last few years and his numbers are just a proof of his talent.
However, Gill is not a part of India's T20I plans as of now, which has gone against his favor. Since the board is looking for a single captain for both the white-ball formats, Gill doesn't seem to suit the plans.
