Smriti Mandhana Creates New Record Amidst Off Field Distractions

India's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana created a new record on her return to cricket during the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam. Mandhana, who is rated quite highly in women's cricket, reached a milestone that has never been achieved in women's cricket in Asia before.

The left-handed opener didn't have a good time with the bat but her little cameo was enough in taking India out of early trouble during their innings. In the process, she created an Asian record which will be remembered for a long time.

Smriti Mandhana Asian Record: Another Milestone in Her Career

Mandhana became the first Asian batter to score 4000 runs in women's T20Is. As a result, she also tops the list of most runs in women's T20Is. Being one of the best women cricketers over the years, this is another achievement in Mandhana's list of records.

The next best in this list is India's captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has scored more than 3,600 runs so far in her career. With the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 approaching fast, both these players will be key to India's prospects.

Meanwhile, Mandhana scored a run-a-ball 25 which consisted of 4 fours, before being dismissed by the left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera. Mandhana tried to smash the ball through the off side by coming down the track.

However, the fielder at deep extra cover was placed perfectly and Smriti Mandhana had to depart. She looked disappointed with her shot selection but had to return back to the pavilion. The IND-W vs SL-W 1st T20I went India's way as they thrashed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets with more than five overs to spare. Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 69 off 44 balls to take India home.
