In the 34th match of the County Championship Division Two, Kent are taking on Northamptonshire at Canterbury. India's star bowler Yuzvendra Chahal is playing for Northamptonshire as he has signed a short contract with them from June 2025 to the year-end. While he remained wicketless in the first innings, he went on to dismiss Kent's Ekansh Singh, who was batting on 27 runs. The batter looked well in form as he was smashing boundaries in the match. The spin wizard bowled a perfect delivery, which caught the batter off guard.

Chahal's good length ball landed outside the leg-stump but spun past the off-stump, dismissing the batter. It was a nightmare for Ekansh because it looked like he wasn't expecting that kind of delivery. Playing with the batter's mind and making perfect use of the spin track is Chahal's specialty, which he has been doing for a very long time. The way he delivered the ball was quite similar to spin legend Shane Warne's bowling style. Hence, in his own way, he recreated Warne's moment in county cricket. In 1993, Shane Warne bowled a similar delivery in his first Ashes match to dismiss Mike Gatting. The leg break delivery pitched outside the leg stump and went straight to the off-stump and dismantled it. That ball became the “Ball of the Century”, which was a pretty iconic moment in Warne's career. He was an incredible bowler and had a huge role in reviving the art of leg spin in cricket.

Meanwhile, the ongoing county match started with Kent batting first and scoring 566 runs. Captain Daniel Bell-Drummond played an incredible knock of 158 runs off 275 balls, helping the team reach a solid score.

When Northamptonshire came to bat, they lost two early wickets, but then the team stood their ground and scored 722 runs, thanks to an unbeaten 196 runs off 213 balls from Saif Zaib. As we write, Kent are currently trailing by 80 runs at tea. So far, Chahal has already one wicket in the match. But he still has a long way to go since Kent have lost just two wickets until now.

Can County Cricket Revive Yuzvendra Chahal's Career?

Yuzvendra Chahal hasn't had an impressive year yet. The leg-spinner, usually known for tricking the batters with his spin, hasn't played for India in a very long time. His lack of form and consistency are the primary reasons behind his downfall in Indian cricket. Hence, he has been engaging more with county cricket over the past few seasons. In 2024, Yuzvendra Chahal county stint was impressive as he picked up 19 wickets in four matches for Northamptonshire, including one fifer.

Even in the recently ended IPL 2025, Chahal claimed 16 wickets in 14 matches while playing for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). This wasn't one of his best seasons in the IPL as he was battling with some injuries. His domestic season in 2024 wasn't that great either. Now that he's back in county cricket and will be available until the end of the year, it would be intriguing to see how his season goes. If he performs well and manages to impress the selectors, he might get his Test cap in the near future.
