Former New Zealand opener joined the cricketers retirement in 2025 list on January 8. The right-handed batter is one of the best T20 batsmen of all time. Scoring over 2500 and 3500 runs in the Test and T20I format, respectively. However, he was phenomenal in the 50-over format, scoring 7346 runs at an average of 41.73.
2. Tamim Iqbal
Star Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal came out of his retirement after the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested him. Karunaratne has also captained the Sri Lankan side during his career and has played 50 ODI matches, scoring 1316 runs. Earlier this year, in February, Karunaratne announced his retirement after the Galle Test against Australia.

Cheteshwar Pujara, the name needs no introduction. After former India legend Rahul Dravid, it was Pujara who was considered as ‘The Wall’ in Tests. Pujara never played T20Is and featured in only five ODI matches. However, he went on to become one of the best Test batsmen of all time. The right-handed batter scored 7195 runs in 103 matches at an average of 43.60. However, his dip in form never gave him a chance to make his comeback again in the Indian side after the 2023 WTC final. He announced his retirement from international cricket on August 24.
5. Heinrich Klaasen

At the age of just 33, the wicketkeeper-batter decided to quit cricket to spend time with his family, however, he chose to continue playing in franchise cricket across the world.
