Big Blow! Top Order Batsman Leaves IND vs ZIM T20I Match Following Fresh Injury Concerns

India and Zimbabwe will kick off their three-match T20I series with the first game at the Harare Sports Club on July 23. Both teams have plenty to play for as they look to start the series on a winning note. India, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, will be eager to recover from recent T20I series losses against Ireland and England.

Zimbabwe, led by one of the best all-rounders in the world, Sikandar Raza, will be confident of making the most of familiar home conditions and building on the positive performances they have shown in recent white-ball matches. The hosts, however, have been struck with an early blow, with Milton Shumba being ruled out after suffering a left quadriceps injury during a training session.

IND vs ZIM T20I Injury Update: Zimbabwe Batter Ruled Out

Zimbabwe have suffered a setback ahead of the three-match T20I series against India with batter Milton Shumba ruled out after sustaining a right hamstring injury. In response, Zimbabwe Cricket has called up Innocent Kaia as Milton Shumba replacement, and the experienced top-order batter has already joined the squad in Harare before the opening fixture.

Medical scans carried out on Tuesday confirmed the severity of Shumba's injury, forcing the 25-year-old to miss the entire series. His appearance in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Bangladesh had marked a successful return to Zimbabwe's T20I setup after being out of the format since 2022.

Kaia, meanwhile, also makes a return to the national T20I squad after a long absence. His most recent appearance in the shortest format came in July 2024, coincidentally against India at the Harare Sports Club, where he now gets another opportunity to represent Zimbabwe.
