The venue has not hosted any major games since the unfortunate crowd stampede that occurred after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 2025 IPL title celebrations, which forced authorities to put a temporary halt on events at the iconic stadium. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, was among those who came to cast their vote and showed the government’s support for reopening the stadium to mainstream cricket.
Venkatesh Prasad Elected New KSCA President
Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has been chosen as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Prasad, who headed the Team Game Changers panel, secured a convincing victory over KN Shanth Kumar, finishing with 749 votes to Shanth Kumar’s 558.
Prasad’s panel dominated the polls across key posts as well. Former India batter Sujith Somasundar, who recently resigned as Head of Cricket Education at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, was voted in as vice-president, defeating D Vinod Sivappa by a margin of 719–588.

Will not allow IPL matches to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy stadium. This is a question of Bengaluru and Karnataka's pride. We will ensure IPL matches are held here. I am a cricket fan. We will ensure that such incidents don't recur in the future and uphold the reputation of the stadium. We will also build a new cricket stadium as an alternative.

Following his election as KSCA president, Venkatesh Prasad, one of the best bowler in India, posted on X to express his gratitude. He wrote that he was deeply honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility and assured his dedication to restoring top-tier cricket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Prasad tweeted,
