Ranji Trophy 2025-26

The 2025–26 Ranji Trophy is set to begin on October 15 and run until February 28, bringing some important changes to India’s most prestigious domestic cricket tournament. This season, the BCCI has introduced a revamped promotion and relegation system, where only one team will move between the Elite and Plate groups, replacing the earlier system that promoted both Plate finalists.

This will be the 91st edition of the tournament, and like previous seasons, it promises to be a showcase of the country’s best first-class talent, with some of the best batsmen in India participating in it. A total of 38 teams will be participating, split across the Elite and Plate divisions, with a round-robin league phase followed by knockouts, leading up to the grand final on February 28, 2026.

The tournament will be split into two phases, first from mid-October to mid-November, and then resuming late January until the knockouts in February, giving players a much-needed break to stay fresh. In total, 138 matches will be played throughout the season, offering a lot of opportunities for players to make a mark. Alongside these changes, the Duleep Trophy will return to its zonal format before the Ranji season kicks off.

Where to Watch Ranji Trophy 2025 Live?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed the official broadcasting and streaming arrangements for the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season, which will feature 38 teams competing across the country. However, going by last season’s pattern, Sports18 is likely to continue as the television broadcaster. At the same time, digital coverage is expected to be available through JioHotstar, which has the rights to live stream the Ranji Trophy 2025.

JioHotstar is expected to remain the main platform for streaming live Ranji Trophy matches this season. Over the past few years, it has emerged as a preferred destination for fans to follow India’s domestic cricket, thanks to its consistent coverage of tournaments. While there's no official word yet from the BCCI or the broadcasters, an announcement is anticipated in the near future.

Ranji Trophy 2025 Key Players to Watch Out For

The Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season has several standout names expected to dominate the domestic circuit. One of the biggest talking points going into the tournament is Vidarbha’s Harsh Dubey. The left-arm spinner picked up a record-breaking 69 wickets and played a key role in Vidarbha's title victory in the last season. His teammate Yash Rathod was equally vital with the bat, scoring close to a thousand runs, including five centuries.

From Tamil Nadu, one of the best bowlers in IPL, R Sai Kishore, was one of the most effective bowlers last season, picking up 53 wickets, although he won't be featuring in the first couple of matches this season due to an injury. While Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur remains a force in red-ball cricket, contributing with both bat and ball when it matters most, alongside him, Shams Mulani is also a dependable all-round option for Mumbai.

While most teams are yet to announce their squads, Tamil Nadu has already revealed theirs, naming Narayan Jagadeesan as captain. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman recently earned his first call-up to the Indian team, being included in the squad for the fifth Test against England. Now, he steps up to lead Tamil Nadu as their new captain. Meanwhile, Sai Kishore, who captained the side over the past two seasons, hasn’t been named in the 16-man squad due to a finger injury and is expected to miss at least the first couple of matches.
