The high-voltage clash between India Champions and Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was called off after several Indian players refused to participate. The match was scheduled for July 20 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. However, due to current tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian players pulled out, forcing organisers to cancel the match.
The fallout began after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, India, which escalated cross-border tensions. In light of this, Indian players decided not to play against Pakistan. Big names like Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh all pulled out from the match.
“Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota,” said Dhawan on X, confirming his decision to withdraw.

Who Gets the Points After IND vs PAK WCL Cancelled Match?
According to the reports, Pakistan Champions have refused to share points with India for the cancelled match. However, the WCL awarded one point to Pakistan after the match was cancelled. But Pakistan have denied to share points with India since they believe that it was the Indian players who pulled out of the match.
The IND vs PAK WCL 2025 cancelled match means that Pakistan Champions sit at the top of the points table with three points. On the other hand, India Champions have one point and are in fourth place. It remains to be seen how this issue gets resolved as the tournament continues ahead.
The WCL organisers stated that the match was cancelled due to circumstances beyond India’s control. They informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about the situation.
“WCL have conveyed to the England and Wales Cricket Board that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them,” WCL sources told NDTV Sports.
In the 2024 edition of WCL, India had defeated Pakistan in the final by five wickets while chasing 157 runs. The Legends in Blue are the defending champions of the title and would be aiming to repeat the same feat here as well.
Shahid Afridi IND vs PAK WCL 2025 Cancelled Match Response
Shahid Afridi, captain of the Pakistan Champions, expressed disappointment over the cancellation and made strong remarks about the Indian players.
“Sports brings countries closer. If politics comes between everything then how will you move forward? Without communication, things cannot be solved. The idea for these kinds of events is also to meet one on one. But you know, there is always one rotten egg, which spoils everything. They trained a day before the match. I think that they pulled out just because of one guy. Even the Indian team is very disappointed. They were here to play. I am telling you, you should be a good ambassador for the country, not an embarrassment,” Afridi told the media on Sunday, July 20.
Afridi also expressed regret, saying he would have withdrawn if he was the reason behind the cancellation. Afridi slammed the Indian players and questioned their playing spirit as well.
“We were very excited to play the second match (vs India). I thought we would be at the ground. We were expecting 17,000-18,000 fans, who would have enjoyed the match. But yeah, it is quite disappointing that we did not play. If they did not played for me, I would have stayed home. Cricket should have continued. Who is Shahid Afridi in front of cricket? No one. If they did not want to play why did they come here? Go sit at home and play between yourselves,” he added.
The rest of the WCL 2025 tournament will continue as planned, according to organisers. The possibility of an India vs Pakistan clash in the semi-final or final remains uncertain and will depend on future circumstances.
India Champions will next play against South Africa Champions on July 22 in Northampton, while Pakistan Champions will face South Africa Champions on July 25. It remains to be seen how the tournament goes ahead if India and Pakistan face each other in the knockouts.
