India are currently trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series. To relax and recharge before the big game, the players visited Manchester United’s training ground, Carrington. Players from both sports, cricket and football, met, talked, and shared stories. The players even swapped jerseys with their names printed on the back. In a video posted by BCCI on social media, Shubman Gill said:
“Very exciting to be able to meet top athletes in the world from another sport. To get to know their stories is very inspiring. How two sports, you’re playing two different sports, but the mindset that you play with is most of the time very similar.”
Gill also had a chat with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes about leadership and team dynamics. India head coach Gautam Gambhir also enjoyed the visit. He had been to Old Trafford in 2014, but felt that this experience was special. Gambhir also swapped jerseys with the United head coach, Ruben Amorim.
“I’ve been here in 2014 as well. This is a completely different experience because you end up chatting with the players. You end up chatting with Ruben as well, which was a nice interaction. What his ideology is towards team sport and what my ideology is towards team sport. The basic foundation of a team sport is very similar. Where I feel that I think it’s the players that adapt to what the team needs, rather than the team that adapts to a certain individual,” the India head coach said.
Rishabh Pant Signed Bat for Bruno Fernandes
India’s vice-captain and wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, gifted a signed cricket bat to the Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes. It was a warm gesture that showed the friendship between the two teams.
In a funny moment, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled to England Manchester United defender Harry Maguire. The playful act brought smiles to players on both sides. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who is known to have a special love for football, was very excited to meet United manager Ruben Amorim.
“I was looking forward to talking to Ruben. I’ve been following him from Sporting. I asked him few questions about the tactics, whether they’re going to stick with the 3-4-3 this season,” Kuldeep said.
Kuldeep also got to speak with midfielder Casemiro and spoke about his admiration for the footballer. “I had a chance to chat to Casemiro about how I admire him as a player and, yeah, it was very nice.”
Later, Yadav posted a photo with Amorim on social media and wrote, “Sharing football knowledge with the man who’s redefining the game.”

The Men in Blue lost the third Test at Lord’s by just 22 runs. It was a close game, and India were in control for large parts.
