England and India in Race to Host Next Three WTC Finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031

England has hosted all the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals so far. The first three editions were all played in England. Now, the next three finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031 are up for grabs, with both England and India in the race to host them. According to reports, the final decision will be made next month in Singapore. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will announce the host countries during its Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Indian and English cricket boards are both trying to get the hosting rights for the next three WTC Finals. According to a report by Dainik Jagran journalist Abhishek Tripathi, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is a top contender.

While India is trying hard, England may have the upper hand. A report by The Telegraph suggests that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has already been informed of the ICC’s plans. Recently, Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, was appointed as the new ICC Chairman. That gives India more power at the ICC table. But still, England’s long cricketing history and neutral location make it a favourite.
Lord’s is seen as the most likely venue for the 2027 final. London is a global city and is easy to reach for fans and players from all over the world. However, some reports suggest that other northern venues may also be considered. This is because no Ashes Test is scheduled in northern England in 2027. That leaves room in the calendar for a big game like the WTC Final.

England’s Track Record as WTC Host

England has hosted all three WTC Finals so far, and each one was played at a different venue:

The first final was held in Southampton because of COVID-19 restrictions. Lord’s was the original choice, but it was not possible at that time. In 2023, the final was moved from Lord’s to The Oval because of sponsorship issues. Finally, in 2025, Lord’s gets its turn to host the big event.
