Who Will Replace Sri Lanka As New Host For ICC Women's Champions Trophy?

Sri Lanka has lost the hosting rights for the inaugural edition of the ICC Women's Champions Trophy. This decision wsa taken by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to the government interference in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

While it is a big blow for Sri Lankan cricket, it also gives a chance to other nations to host this exciting tournament. Now, the ICC will choose a new host for Women's Champions Trophy 2027 at its next board meeting.

Who Will Replace Sri Lanka as New Women's Champions Trophy Host?

The ICC is yet to announce a new host for the Women's Champions Trophy 2027. However, various reports including India Today are stating that India is the frontrunner to host the tournament next year.

The decision is yet not official but giving the hosting rights to India seems to be a favorable option as the country has huge popularity for the sport. Women's cricket has grown in stature in India over the last few years and the ICC might consider this factor in their meeting.

The last ICC women's tournament hosted by India was in 2025. The Women in Blue hosted the ODI World Cup, which they went on to win by defeating South Africa in the final. It was India's first-ever senior ICC title in women's cricket, marking a historic moment for them.

Is Sri Lanka Out of ICC Women's Champions Trophy 2027?

The inaugural Women's Champions Trophy will be played in the T20I format and will feature six teams. These are the best women's cricket teams in the world. Sri Lanka Women were earlier guaranteed a spot being the hosts, however, their participation seems in danger now.

Sri Lanka are currently seventh in the ICC Women's T20I rankings. Since they are no longer the ICC Women's Champions Trophy host, they will have to ensure their qualification through performances to climb up in the rankings.

West Indies are at the sixth spot currently and they might qualify if they keep their place in the rankings. It will ensure that Sri Lanka will miss out on the qualification for the inaugural edition of the Women's Champions Trophy.
