Indian cricket team's national chief selector Ajit Agarkar was not present in the BCCI's review meeting held on September 3 at the BCCI headquarters, Mumbai. This raised speculations about Agarkar's future as India chief selector.

Ajit Agarkar has been facing criticism lately due to India's disappointing performances in Ireland and England tours. One of the talking points was to decide his future as the men's chief selector but Ajit Agarkar BCCI review meeting absence raised many questions.

Why Ajit Agarkar Missed BCCI Review Meeting?

Ajit Agarkar could not attend the BCCI meeting as he was not in Mumbai and the meeting was called on short notice. Unfortunately, he was in an area where joining online was not a viable option.

"He was out of station. He could not be part of the meeting. This meeting was called on short notice. He was not in town. He was in such an area, where he could not join online despite his best efforts," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said to media after the meeting.

Further speaking, Saikia mentioned that there were no discussions on Ajit Agarkar's future in this meeting. He refuted all the claims of him being removed from the role of India's chief selector.

Ajit Agarkar became India's chief selector in 2023. During his tenure, the Men in Blue won three ICC titles - Champions Trophy 2025, T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026. He played a key role in making India one of the best T20 teams in the world.

Is Ajit Agarkar Removed as India Chief Selector?

According to the renowned journalist Vaibhav Bhola, Ajit Agarkar will be removed as the chairman of India's selection committee soon. The report also claims that the BCCI is already searching for a new India chief selector.

However, the BCCI is yet to make it official and these are just speculations. Agarkar, alongside the head coach Gautam Gambhir, have been under the hammer for India's depleting performances recently, especially in Tests.
Even if he does not get removed, he will be under pressure in the upcoming series leading to the ODI World Cup 2027. He has been in the role for quite some time now and it can be risky if he gets removed from the role just a year before.
