India and New Zealand are set to renew their ODI rivalry as the five-match series kicks off on November 4, 2026. The NZ vs IND 1st ODI will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, one of the top cricket stadiums in New Zealand. The tour will be followed by two Test matches, making it a significant assignment for both teams.

However, beyond the cricketing action, the upcoming ODI series has already caught attention for a special reason. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has unveiled a limited-edition jersey, celebrating a century of sporting connections between the two countries through an artistic blend of their cultural identities.

Why Is New Zealand Wearing New Jersey Against India?

New Zealand new cricket jersey is not merely a fresh kit or a commercial rebranding exercise. The BLACKCAPS will wear the special Kotahitanga ODI shirt during the five-match ODI series against India, beginning November 4, to commemorate 100 years of sporting ties between the two nations.

The connection dates back to 1926, when an Indian Army hockey team toured New Zealand, marking an important chapter in their sporting relationship. Now, with two of the best cricket teams in the world playing against each other, it seems to be a perfect occasion to wear this jersey.

The word 'Kotahitanga' represents unity, which forms the central theme of the New Zealand new kit. The limited-edition shirt brings together Maori artistic traditions and Indian cultural motifs, reflecting the shared history, mutual respect and sporting spirit between the two nations.

New Zealand Cricket's Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Glenn Critchley, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, saying,

New Zealand Maori Design Jersey

The NZ Maori design jersey is a collaboration between three artists: Ben Thomason, Shiv Narandas and Jai Pancha. Their work combines Maori artistic patterns with Indian cultural elements to create a meaningful tribute to the sporting bond.

Thomason incorporated traditional Maori kowhaiwhai patterns over a background of haehae lines. The artwork symbolises the connection between the living and those who have passed away while honouring the people who helped build the relationship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Narandas and Pancha introduced three Indian motifs into the design: the lotus, India's national flower, a repeating ogee pattern inspired by Indian architecture, and the mandala, whose symmetrical framework complements Maori design traditions.

The collaboration also holds personal significance for Narandas, whose family hails from Gujarat. The limited-edition shirt is available through New Zealand Cricket's official store and selected retailers in New Zealand, offering fans an opportunity to own a piece of the celebration.
