Why Ruturaj Gaikwad is Not in India Squad for ODI Series Against New Zealand?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, starting from January 11. While most of the players from the South Africa series have managed to retain their place, the fans are happy and excited to watch Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in action once again. Both the star batters are in form and have performed brilliantly in the previous series.

Amidst the excitement, the omission of one of the best batsmen in India, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been quite evident. Despite scoring a century in the previous series, the selectors couldn't fit him in the squad.

Why Ruturaj Gaikwad is Not in India ODI Squad for NZ Series 2026?

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who slammed a century in the ODI series against South Africa, was omitted from the squad against New Zealand. While the selectors didn't give any reason for the snub, the addition of Shreyas Iyer to the team could be a possible reason.

Gaikwad came into the squad as Shreyas Iyer was injured. But, as per BCCI, Iyer has been added to the squad and will only play if he gets medical clearance. He is also the vice-captain of the team. Hence, Gaikwad couldn't find himself a spot in the squad.
