Several overseas players linked to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have found themselves in trouble with England’s domestic rules. The issue came to light after reports confirmed that veteran names like Peter Siddle and Samit Patel were blocked from playing in England’s T20 Blast, raising questions about ECB player eligibility.
Why Are These PSL Players Blocked After Playing in India?

It is a harsh move, considering the stature of these two players who have played a huge role for their nations in international cricket. Despite both of them being at the end stages of their respective careers, they are still going strong.
Why Are These PSL Players Blocked?
The restriction has nothing to do directly with the PSL, but rather the players' participation in an unsanctioned tournament in India earlier this year. As per ESPNCricinfo, both Peter Siddle and Samit Patel featured in the World Legends Pro T20 League in Goa, which was not approved by the BCCI.
As per the ECB regulations, any cricketer who participates in “disapproved cricket” becomes ineligible for county competitions for 12 months from the start of the season. This rule is strictly enforced to maintain standards and ensure players only take part in officially recognized events.
Since the Goa-based league lacked official sanction, it fell under the “disapproved” category, due to which these players were banned. As a result, both players have been ruled out of the T20 Blast, one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world, despite being available otherwise.
Peter Siddle in PSL 2026
Peter Siddle, who was one of the best Test bowlers at one time, has put together a decent campaign in the ongoing season of the PSL, continuing to defy his age at 41. The Aussie fast bowler has featured in eight matches and picked up nine wickets so far, playing a key supporting role for the Multan Sultans.
His best spell in the tournament has been 2/29. He might not have picked up many wickets but his impressive economy rate of just 8.70 tells the story behind his magnificent effort on one of the best batting wickets. He has also bowled at a high pace, close to 140 kph, and has troubled the batters more often.
Despite being one of the oldest players to play cricket globally, Siddle continues to grow from strength to strength. He is a constant figure in the Big Bash League and has been performing impressively all seasons.
