The two emerging associate nations, Netherlands and the USA are clashing against each other in the 21st match of the T20 World Cup 2026. The contest is being played at one of the biggest cricket stadiums in the world, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Interestingly, it's a do-or-die clash for the Americans, as a loss today will end their hopes to qualify for the Super 8 stage. Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to bowl first; however, he also announced a surprising change for the match as fast bowler Timm van der Guggten misses out today.

Why Timm van der Guggten is Not Playing Today?

Netherlands' star pacer Timm van der Guggten has been dropped from the playing XI for the USA vs NED T20 World Cup 2026 match. The team management decided to try a new team combination by bringing in a similar kind of pacer, Kyle Klein, into the playing 11.

Interestingly, Van der Guggten hasn't played a single match against the USA yet while Klein has appeared in three T20Is against the Americans, picking up three wickets. Klein's experience might have given the nod over Van der Guggten for this match.

Timm van der Guggten replacement Kyle Klein played in Netherlands' first match of the T20 World Cup, however, he was dropped for the next game. Netherlands will hope that his comeback helps Netherlands win their second match of the tournament.

Timm van der Guggten's Performance in T20 World Cup 2026

Van der Guggten replaced Kyle Klein in Netherlands' second match of the tournament, which was played against Namibia. He bowled two overs in the match and conceded 21 runs without taking a single wicket. On the other hand, Klein played in Netherlands' first match of the tournament, which was one of the best cricket teams in the world, Pakistan. The right pacer bowled three overs in the match and conceded only 23 runs while picking up a wicket as well.

Meanwhile, Netherlands are playing their third match of the tournament. While they narrowly lost to Pakistan in the first match, they made a superb comeback by defeating Namibia in their next game. They will hope to register another victory, however, USA has also been impressive and will pose a difficult challenge for them.
