Why Vaibhav Suryavanshi is Not in Bihar Squad For Ranji Trophy 2026-27? Reason Revealed

Bihar will begin its 2026-27 Ranji Trophy campaign against Uttar Pradesh on October 11, but one notable name is missing from the squad announced for the first two matches. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had been part of Bihar’s Ranji camp and was included in the preliminary group of players, has not made the cut.

The teenager has had an unusually packed calendar, moving between domestic cricket and India assignments at the senior level. Bihar’s selection also comes after the BCCI deputed a three-member panel of former selectors to oversee the state’s squad selection.

Why Vaibhav Suryavanshi Is Not In Bihar Squad?

The primary reason for Suryavanshi’s absence is his India commitments. The 15-year-old is part of India’s squad for the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies, although he was not selected in the playing XI for the opening match in Lucknow.

More importantly, the BCCI on October 6 named Suryavanshi in India’s 16-member squad for the five-match T20I tour of New Zealand, beginning October 22 in Christchurch. That series runs until November 1, overlapping with Bihar’s first two Ranji matches against Uttar Pradesh and Baroda on October 18-21.

Suryavanshi has also just returned from the Asian Games in Japan, where he represented India, making his current workload even heavier. The young prodigy is seen as the future of Indian cricket as he has the potential to become the best batsman in the world.

With India clearly investing in the teenager at the international level, Vaibhav Suryavanshi Ranji Trophy absence is therefore primarily a result of his national-team commitments, rather than being overlooked by Bihar selectors.

Unlike his T20 numbers, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's stats in first-class cricket aren't the best. The left-hander scored 399 runs in 11 matches at an average of 23.47. However, he is still seen as a future of Indian cricket and has already represented India A.
