The Nepal Cricket Team won the hearts of many with their incredible display in their T20 World Cup 2026 opener against England. The match between two teams took place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 8.

In what was the second encounter of the Day, it almost witnessed one of the biggest upsets in world cricket. The Nepal side almost got the win, however, Sam Curran’s last over saved the humiliation for England.

Nepal’s blistering performance against England even made the former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn offer their services to the Himalayan nation. The former Proteas pacer was left amazed by the way Nepal had England on their knees.

Nepal’s incredible performance left the entire cricket fraternity amazed. Dale Steyn, the GOAT of cricket, went a step ahead and offered his services. He openly, on an X post, stated that if Nepal cricket needs him, he will be there. Dale Steyn Nepal tweet spread like fire and a lot of speculations started circulating.

“Nepal, I offer my services to you if you ever need them! Up, up and UP!” Steyn tweeted.

This could well be the changing point in Nepal’s cricket if they rope in Steyn as their coach. With the kind of cricket they played, it’s fair to say that they need a little nourishment and no better than Steyn can give them.

Adding Steyn into the coaching setup surely will be in reckoning in Nepal’s cricket. The South African legend might also join the team as their bowling coach or consultant in the future, which can help them do well in further ICC tournaments.

Nepal Suffer Heartbreaking to England

The ENG vs NEP T20 World Cup match went down to the wire. England opted to bat after winning the toss and many expected them to hit even 300. However, Nepal’s bowling was beyond expectations. Phil Salt fell in just the second over, while Jos Buttler and Tom Banton also failed to go big as England were at 57 for three.

Jacob Bethell (55) and captain Harry Brook (53), two of the best T20 batsmen, hit half-centuries under pressure and set the platform for a strong finish. Will Jacks (39*) cashed on that as his 18-ball cameo in the end powered England to 184 for seven.

In reply, Kushal Bhurtel (29) started well for Nepal, but fell early as both openers were back in the hut for 42. Captain Rohit Paudel (39) and Dipendra Singh Airee (44) then led the rescue charge and added 82 runs together to keep them in the hunt.

With still a lot of runs needed, Lokesh Bam (35*) changed the game as he toyed with Jofra Archer in the 18th over, hitting him for three sixes. Nepal just needed ten in the last over, but Sam Curran executed his yorkers perfectly and snatched the victory for his team by just four runs.
