Will Rohit Sharma Retire After the Lord's ODI? Here's the Latest Update

Former India captain Rohit Sharma is arguably in the final stages of his cricket career. Having retired from the T20Is and the Tests, Rohit is currently playing his the ODI format.

However, the recent developments regarding the legendary cricketer have indicated that the ENG vs IND 3rd ODI at Lord's might be his last one. This comes at a time when Rohit is trying hard to remain in the shape for the next year's ODI World Cup.

Will Rohit Sharma Retire After Lords ODI?

According to Express Sports, the Indian team selectors have already conveyed to Rohit Sharma that he is no longer in the team's plans for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. Hence, there are chances that the final match of the ongoing series against England at Lord's could be the last match of his career.

The report states that the selectors alongside India's head coach Gautam Gambhir revealed their plans to Rohit last week. Although he wanted to continue especially after working on his fitness, the selectors are keen to move on from him now.

Rohit hasn't been in best form in the ongoing ODI series against England. He scored 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs of the series and looked out of touch in most parts. Known as an aggressor at the top, Rohit has lacked fluency at the top this series.

While the selectors have informed about their ODI World Cup 2027 plans, Rohit Sharma retirement is still in his own hands. It is up to Sharma to decide when to play his last match, however, the chances are high that Lord's could be it.

Rohit has arguably been one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He has achieved numerous acheivements during his career, with the highest individual ODI score being the one of them.

Who Will Replace Rohit Sharma?

The selectors are now keen to try out Yashasvi Jaiswal as India's new opener in ODIs as a replacement for Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal has been in the scheme of things in the 50-over format but hasn't been able to break into the first-choice playing 11 yet.

With India having a power-packed batting line-up full of starts, Jaiswal has fouund it difficult breaking into the playing 11 despite impressive performances in ODIs. He is likely to be given a long run now.

But, it won't be easy for Jaiswal to replace a batter like Rohit Sharma, who is one of the best ODI batsmen of all time. But the left-hander has already proved his mettle in Test cricket and seems prepared for the 50-over format now.
