Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the best test batter for India in the last couple of years. The left-handed batter has struggled in his initial days. He came to Mumbai from a small village in Uttar Pradesh. He relocated to Mumbai when he was ten years old to practice cricket at Azad Maidan.

He first lived in a dairy business in exchange for labour. However, the shopkeeper kicked him out because his practice schedule restricted him from working regularly. He consequently lived in a tent at the Maidan with the groundskeepers, earning a living by selling panipuri.

Jwala Singh provides insights on Yashasvi Jaiswal becoming the next superstar

After three years of living in tents, Jwala Singh noticed Jaiswal’s cricketing ability in December 2013. While he was 12 years old, Jwala Singh took the responsibility of the young cricketer and was his guardian. Jwala Singh provided a place to live for Jaiswal, before becoming his legal guardian and taking his power of attorney.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, since making his India debut, has not turned back. He is the fastest to reach 1000 runs in the red-ball format of the game. He looked fantastic in the home series against England where he scored nearly 700 runs in the series.

On being asked Jwala Singh at Sportsdunia, what sets him apart from other Indian legend cricketers. The coach believes Jaiswal has the talent to become the next superstar for India. He needs to be disciplined, and consistent to play like he does in the upcoming 10-15 years, he will surely be a difference-maker for the Men in Blue across all formats of the game.

Could Yashasvi Jaiswal be the next Indian Team Captain?

Jwala Singh said he has the belief that Yashasvi Jaiswal can make 15,000 runs in ODI and Test match cricket if he continues to play the game dedicatedly with utmost discipline and keeps the focus intact as he is still at an early stage of his career. Coming to the leadership role, his former coach has also given an insight about the possibility of becoming the next captain for India.

Jwala Singh said that “leadership is not learned from books, books are there for learning. Captaincy and leadership qualities are born inside and it is learned from mistakes and experiences from the matches. If someone has the experience to become the captain. But it is too early to talk about it right now, as he has only played one and a half years for India.”

He further added, “His prime focus should be on performing well across formats for India. Later on, he will have the opportunity to lead the team, which is secondary at the moment. He should only focus on the role he has now which is to score runs for the country.”
