Rajesh Banik was born on December 12, 1984, in Agartala. He was known for his determination and his lifelong dedication to cricket, first as a player, and later as a mentor and selector. Tragically, he passed away in a road accident on October 31, 2025, in Anandanagar, West Tripura, leaving the Indian domestic cricket community in deep shock.

He came into the limelight early, representing India Under-15 in 2000 alongside future stars like Irfan Pathan and Ambati Rayudu, playing in the ACC Under-15 Trophy in Kuala Lumpur and also touring England the same year. He made his first-class debut for Tripura in the 2001–02 Ranji Trophy season. Over the years, he went on to play 42 first-class matches, scoring 1,469 runs at an average of 19.32, with six half-centuries and a highest score of 93. His final first-class appearance came against Odisha in Cuttack in November 2018.

After retiring from professional cricket, Banik continued to serve the game, taking up the role of selector for Tripura’s Under-16 team, where he worked closely with young players. His sudden death has left a deep void in the Tripura cricket fraternity.
